Pharmacogenomics testing & consults

Personalized Medicine at Your Fingertips

WHAT IS PHARMACOGENOMICS?

Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is how your genes might affect your response to medications. It helps ensure you get the right drug at the right dose, and reduces the chance you’ll have unwanted side effects.

why should i get a pgx test*?

A PGx test is a great option for you if:

  • You have a history of not responding well to medications, whether it be frequent unwanted side effects, being “highly sensitive”, or medications frequently not working like you expected

  • You are concerned about starting new medications, and want a tool to help guide decision making

  • You want to ensure medications you’re on and/or may be prescribed in the future are safe and effective for you

I’m not a fan of needles. how does this test work?

Not to worry! This test is quick and painless. We use a cheek swab to collect a sample and send it off to the lab. I will help walk you through it. It’s very easy!

does my insurance cover it?

It depends on the insurance and the patient. The good news is this is a test that only needs to be performed once in a lifetime. Our DNA does not change. Also, most FSA/HSA accounts will cover the test.

how do i make sense of the results of the test?

You don’t have to worry about this, because included in our PGx package are two consultations with our pharmacist. We will explain the results of the test and go over all of the medications you are taking to see if they are appropriate based on your results. We can even contact your doctor’s office if you’d like to discuss recommendations.

*Pharmacogenomics tests and consultations available for those who reside in CO, AZ, CA, FL, and MO only.
